CJ Family AI is a self-hosted AI assistant that runs entirely on hardware in our home. It is used by the members of one household — two adults and two children — and is not offered to anyone else.
What it does
It is a chat assistant, similar in shape to commercial products, but the models run locally and the conversations never leave our own machines. Household members use it to:
- Ask questions and hold ordinary conversations with a locally-run language model
- Search the web and get answers with citations
- Ask questions about documents they upload
- Generate images
- Create Google Docs, Sheets and Slides in their own Google Drive, on request
- Read their own email, send mail, and manage calendar events on request
Why it asks for Google access
The last item is the only reason this application requests access to Google account data. When a household member asks it to "make a spreadsheet of the household budget" or "turn these notes into a slide deck", the assistant creates that file in that person's own Google Drive using the Google Drive, Docs, Sheets and Slides APIs.
Each person connects their own Google account
Authorisation is per person. A document created for one household member is created in their Drive, under their account, and is not visible to the others through this application. Nobody is required to connect a Google account at all — the assistant works without it, and simply produces downloadable files instead.
Where it runs
On a single machine in our home, reachable only over a private network. There is no public sign-up, no hosted instance, and no way for someone outside the household to create an account.
